What is a Gospel Community?

A group of people following Jesus together. The gospel is the message of God reconciling men and women to Himself through His son, Jesus. Therefore gospel communities are a place where we come together to look to Jesus as our Redeemer and King, and follow Him together.

Gospel Communities will usually meet in homes and have a leader who teaches and guides the group in growing together in their pursuit of Jesus. Each Gospel Community is different as each leader shapes his group to the needs of its members, and the direction God is leading.

Why Gospel Communities?

The mission of our Gospel Communities is to build loving relationships that work together for the advancement of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

We build loving relationships by gathering together to live life together. Sometimes this may mean sharing a meal, often it will mean praying for each other, and once every 29 years it might mean watching the Royals in the World Series. We believe God cares about relationships and thus we want to invest in building those relationships.

Within these relationships we advance the kingdom of Jesus through studying the Bible, praying together, serving our community, and proclaiming the gospel from our homes to the ends of the earth.

What do we do? Why?

  • Studying God’s word to know Him.

…and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:15)

We study the bible to know God through Jesus, not just a bunch of Bible facts.

  • Praying with and for one another.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people…” (1 Timothy 2:1)

We believe that God actually hears and works through prayer, thus we pray for the needs of one another and our community, and God acts.

  • Serving our community.

“…and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.” (Mark 10:44-45)

This service may mean raking the leaves of a neighbor or providing a place for someone to live who can’t afford that on their own or just providing a meal for a family that has a new baby. In these ways and many others, our Gospel Communities seek to love sacrificially like Jesus loves us.

  • Proclaiming the Gospel from our homes to the ends of the earth.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Within our group we strive to speak the message of Jesus as Savior into every situation. This gospel proclamation is not just how we “proselytize,” but how we live, thus we speak the gospel to one another and to those outside our gospel community. We believe Jesus is King over all the earth and as such we truly desire His gospel to be proclaimed from our meeting place to the ends of the earth.
